Bush Booed at Nationals Opening Game

I'm not much into baseball. In fact, if I do watch a game, it's usually during the world series. Even if I'd known this would happen, I doubt I would've tuned in. How often do you hear a president get booed like this, though? Sure, there were some loud cheers, but the fact that the boos were loud enough to hear is crazy. Did this happen last year? Oh wait, he didn't even attend an opening game last year. That wouldn't have had anything to do with sub-40% approval ratings, would it? Bush spokespeople said no, but really, what can you believe from those people?

Summers Past

Hung out with Amy, Kari, and Sybil at Summers Past Farms. Such a beautiful place. Perfect place for a picnic--they have a large, open lawn that's just the spot to lay out a blanket. There's also a covered patio/coffee bar for when the sun's too much. I recommend you get out there while the weather is still bearable.

Moisture is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of beauty.

droptych (by ebilflindas)

This has been one of those photographic fascinations of mine--images of water droplets frozen in mid-air. Like with macro images, moon images, and wide-angle images, I've come to a place where I feel comfortable experimenting--and getting rewarded for my efforts. This was my first attempt at capturing water droplets, and while I'm pretty happy with my results, I know there's more to explore, more discoveries to be made, more "Aha!" moments to catapult my pursuit of ... whatever it is I'm pursuing! ;-D

Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way round or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.

The Great Flickr Blackout of 2008!

Uh oh...
What's going on over there at Flickr?
I know it was only down for a bit, but you know what they say:
You can fix a dam when it breaks,
but everyone will know where the cracks are...

Sure, today was nothing like that dark night in mid-January, when Flickr was down for hours, but when I don't even get the 'hiccups' message, I get scared! On the blog, it says:
3:55 pm: Oh wait! We’re back! We’re still scrutinizing the patient so if anything else should occur, check back here for additional information.

3:52 pm: Where’d we go? That’s the question! Flickr has been offline for about an hour, and the hard-working supernerds are busily diagnosing the patient. We’ll be back soon with a prognosis. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Well how am I supposed to check for additional information when the blog doesn't even load?!

Don't mess with my addiction, damnit!!!

After this weekend's storm, you might have to wonder, but...

It's beginning to look a lot like Springtime!

Another blogging Flickrite

I just came across a Flickrer who was part of last year's Daily Photo Diary. Checking her stream and profile to see what Barb's been up to, I found a link to her blog.

I thought some of y'all might like to meet her.

Lens crazy

So thanks to eBay, I got my hands on a couple more lenses. My quiver now holds these light suckers:

▫ 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 (kit lens)
▫ 55-200mm f/4-5.6 (kit telephoto)
▫ 50mm f/1.8 (Nikkor Series E)
▫ 135mm f/2.8 (Soligor)
▫ 300mm f/4.5 (Nikkor-H)

You've already seen what the nifty-fifty can do.

Here's what the 135mm can do:

Yeah, these lenses are still the manual focus deal, but I really like having that control, even if it means some of my shots don't come out--cuz when I can nail the focus, the images are sharp! That's the thing with prime (fixed focal length) lenses--the less components the light has to shine through, the sharper the image. At least, that's how I'd explain it until I learn what's really going on.

SDCCS Luau Gala 2008

Our school gala took place this past Saturday, in La Jolla. It was great fun, with food, drinks, and dancing. There was also the live auction, which was really entertaining with Mark Vidano as the capable MC and a lively bidding crowd.

For those of you who couldn't make it, and for you who want to see some of the photos I took, I have a gallery set up HERE.
