Happy Birthday to one of the Fathers of Photography
In the spirit of name of this blog, I'd like to let y'all know that yesterday was the birthday of Louis Daguerre. I just found out myself, but maybe you'd already heard.
So happy birthday, M. Daguerre. Thank you for developing the process that led to my current hobby.

My very good friend from University, Dominic Smith, had a historical novel published last year called The Mercury Visions of Louis Daguerre". You can see it on Amazon here.
I forgot to say what an amazing photo that is.
Did Santa already bring you a new toy?
Thank you for that link, Lau--that book is going on my wishlist!
When I was a boy, I used to wrap up my own toys and put them under the tree, addressed from Santa. I thought this would confound my parents, who I knew to be the 'real' Santas; and I thought they might wonder if there had actually been a jolly visitor in the night.
So, in this context, I suppose yes, Santa did bring me a new toy!
