We are a very pleased to announce a few details about our next event fundraiser, The Art of Giving at the On Broadway Nightclub in downtown San Diego, CA.
Entertainment
We booked the band we wanted and they are awesome! Orquesta Tabaco Y Ron’s is a 12 piece “Big-Band” orchestra, composed of musicians from all over Latin America including Puerto Rico, Cuba, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Peru, Colombia and Mexico.
OTR’s high-energy, hard-edged brand of salsa music has appealed to devoted salsa dancers and Latin music DJ’s worldwide. OTR’s contagious rhythms produce an energy that revives the almost extinct salsa sound of generations past.
Cihtli Ocampo “La Gallardí” and Ethan Margolis
Cihtli Ocampo - Described as a “powerful dancer” by Dancemagazine, Cihtli Ocampo was born in San Diego, CA and was awarded the William J. Fulbright Scholarship for Flamenco and Spanish Dance in Spain in 1999. In 2000 she moved to Seville to train exclusively with the Farruco family. In 2004, Ms. Ocampo began performing with them debuting in Farruquito’s production of “Alma Vieja.” Cihtli has also performed as a soloist with Farruca and Farruco chico in “Familia Farruco”. She was a featured dancer in Tony Gatlif’s film “Exils”, which won best director at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. In October of 2004 Ms. Ocampo shared billing in Paris with La Macanita in “Exils” the performance. Since 2006 Cihtli has been performing as lead soloist with Arte y Pureza Flamenco Co. Her most recent performances in Quantum Theatre’s production of Garcia Lorca’s “Yerma” has won her rave reviews by the Pittsburgh press including being called ”… the most dramatic figure on stage this year.” by Pittsburgh Magazine. In July of this year, Ms. Ocampo choreographed and danced in her husband’s production of “Spanish Day” The Rock Opera.
Ethan Margolis - Born in Santa Cruz, CA, Ethan Margolis was born into a family of musicians. Since his arrival in Sevilla in the year 2000, Margolis has made a name for himself in the intimate world of legendary Gypsy singers and dancers. In 2006, Margolis created Arte y Pureza Flamenco Co. and has directed, produced and played in two sold-out national tours. Deemed “a triumph” by The New York Times, Arte y Pureza is dedicated to the preservation of pure flamenco from the streets and homes of Andalucía. In 2007 Ethan produced and played guitar on legendary singer Miguel Funi’s CD “Aires Gitanos.” He has performed with such greats as Curro Fernández, Manuel de Paula, El Lebrijano, Miguel Funi, Concha Vargas and Inés Bacán. In March of this year, Mr. Margolis composed, sang and played the music for Quantum Theater’s production of Garcia Lorca’s “Yerma” in Pittsburgh. Ethan’s latest and most ambitious project, “Spanish Day”, is a Flamenco rock opera played by his rock band, “Sir Sultry” and featuring 18 musicians and dancers from around the world.

About the Location
Located at the intersection of 6th Avenue and Broadway, in the “Gaslamp District” of San Diego, the On Broadway Nightclub was developed within the shell of a 30,000 square foot historic bank building that dates back to the 1920’s. On Broadway is a multi-level location and our event will take place on the lower level.
